Requirements
Ā Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age.

Ā Must be a high school graduate, have passed GED test, or have completed 12 semester hours of college.

Ā Must be able to read and write in the English language.
,
Ā Must not have been discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions.
,
Ā Must hold TCFP Basic Structure Firefighter certification at the time of written examination.
,
Ā Must hold TDSHS EMT Basic certification at the time of the written examination.
,
Ā Must possess a current valid driver's license with a good driving record.
,
Ā Have no felony convictions or a history of misdemeanor convictions indicating habitual law violation.
,
Ā Be subjected to a search of records to disclose a criminal record.
,
Ā Standard visual acuity without correction, at least 20/40 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye, correctable to at least 20/20 and 20/40.

Ā Must be able to distinguish between the colors red, yellow, and green.
,
Ā Be able to pass a validated physical ability test successfully.
,
Ā Be able to pass a post-offer physical, psychological, drug test, and polygraph.
,
Ā All candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
