About the position

The Auditor of State's office (AOS) is seeking dedicated accounting professionals to join their team as Financial Accounting Staff Auditors. This hybrid position is based in Ashland County, Ohio, and involves conducting external financial audits for various public entities, including cities, villages, and schools. The primary responsibility of the auditors is to ensure that taxpayer dollars are utilized in accordance with legal standards and regulations. Auditors will work in small teams, performing financial statement and administrative controls testing, and will be expected to develop a working knowledge of auditing techniques, Ohio State government, professional auditing standards, and state fiscal practices. As a Financial Accounting Staff Auditor, you will serve as a contributing member of an audit team, completing assigned duties of limited scope while communicating effectively with the team leader regarding the appropriate methods to be applied in the audit context. You will receive controlled assignments that will gradually increase in difficulty and responsibility, allowing you to grow your skills and expertise in the field. Your role will involve conducting background research on the agencies being audited, which includes examining relevant statutes, rules, and regulations. You will also be required to travel to audit site locations to obtain audit evidence and perform fieldwork, which includes visual examinations of records and the preparation and organization of workpapers that document the results of your audit examinations. In addition to gathering and analyzing data pertinent to the audits, you will participate in interviews with agency staff to elicit information and help draft audit comments for the final audit reports. Responsibilities
• Develop working knowledge of auditing techniques, Ohio State government, professional auditing standards, and State fiscal practices.

• Learn to gather, interpret, compile, and analyze data pertinent to audits performed by the office.

• Review data and other information pertinent to the audit.

• Participate in interviews of agency staff to elicit information.

• Help draft audit comments for audit reports.

• Prepare preliminary drafts of audit findings.

• Other duties as assigned by manager.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university (Accounting preferred)
,
• Successful completion of at least 16 semester hours or equivalent in accounting or related field from an accredited college, university, trade, technical or vocational school beyond high school level

• Possess at least three years' experience in accounting or related field
,
• Knowledge of Microsoft office products preferred (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
,
• Must have a valid U.S. driver's license

Nice-to-haves
• CPA and governmental accounting experience are a definitive plus.

• Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to work under time-budget structure.

• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
