Job description: Job Description SummaryJob DescriptionEssential Responsibilities:As a Field Service Engineer - Power Systems, you will:

Perform installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations during ship construction. Must be capable of working unsupervised.
Performs troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled Port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actions.
Performs a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GEPC Power systems and associated control systems.
Provide support to engineering teams working on customer modernization projects.
Provide support the bidding process for the customer modernization projects.
Provide on call support in response to customer calls for service
Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements
Perform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.
Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.
Qualifications/Requirements:

High School Diploma with a minimum of 15 additional years of related field service experience in a field service AND/OR commissioning environment with Power systems and associated control systems.
Minimum 3 years of field service and/or commissioning experience in a field service/ commissioning environment with Power systems and associated control systems
Eligibility Requirements:

US Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects
Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time​ on short notice
Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals.
Perform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.
Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.
Must be physically fit to be able to board vessels offshore.
Must be able to pass a HUET and offshore survival course which includes activities in a swimming pool.
The work environment at onsite locations is of a construction type setting. Whilst performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of trips, slips and falls. The noise level on-site or on-board ships can be excessive, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required.
Desired Characteristics:

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (OR an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum 5 additional years of related field service experience in a field service/ commissioning environment with Power systems and associated control systems).
Possess a detailed knowledge of Power system equipment for LV and MV power systems
Switchgear- Medium Voltage and Low Voltage
Circuit Breakers- MCCBs, ACBs, VCBs
Sensing Instruments- PTs, CTs, Transducers
Transformers- phase shifting transformers for VFD application
Motor Control Centers (MCCs)- Basic Starters with Start/ Stop, Multi Speed Starters, Wye-Delta Starters, Hand/ Off/ Auto control, Local/ Remote control
Soft Starters/ VFDs
Transfer Switches- Manual and Auto
Protection Relays- Generator, Transformer, Feeder, Motor, and Bus
Enhanced generator protection schemes
Power Quality meters
Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR)- Generator Excitation Control for synchronizing and load sharing
Governors- Engine Speed control for synchronizing and load sharing
Synchronizers/ Sync Check Relays
Load Sharing Systems
Ability to install, commission and troubleshoot GEPC Power systems and associated control systems, which require considerable engineering skill and independent judgment.
Ability to travel to destinations in the USA or overseas at very short notice to troubleshoot existing Marine Power, propulsion, and control systems.
Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.
Must be able to interact and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel.
Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities to meet business needs and department goals.
Must be able to independently arrange and organize work efforts on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Must be able to meet tight deadlines. Ability to multi-task on a consistent basis.
Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional ethics and integrity.
Ability to make recommendations regarding job methods and departmental procedures.
Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office applications
Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices
