Position: Experienced Taxation Manager & Counsel – US Information Reporting, Withholding, and Compliance Advisory

About the Role
As a seasoned taxation professional, you'll play a critical role in providing expert guidance on US information reporting and withholding tax matters. You'll partner with business groups to ensure compliance with tax information reporting and withholding rules, and provide strategic guidance to help resolve business challenges. Your expertise will be invaluable in tracking and assessing the impact of legislative, administrative, and other legal developments on American Express.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tax technical advice on US information reporting and withholding, FATCA, CRS, intercompany and supplier agreements, and new product and other new business proposals
Partner with business groups to monitor new products/transactions and ensure proper application of tax information reporting and tax withholding rules
Review and comment on business procedure documents to ensure compliance with tax information reporting/withholding rules
Provide strategic guidance to business groups to help resolve business challenges
Provide guidance on year-end reporting (Forms 1099, 1042, etc)
Track and proactively assess how legislative, administrative, and other legal developments impact American Express, including liaising with Government Affairs and external industry organizations
Interact with tax authorities to resolve tax information reporting items
Provide tax technical guidance during tax audits and controversies, including drafting responses to IDRs and assisting in managing relationships with tax authorities
Minimum Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
3+ years of experience in taxation with a focus on information reporting and withholding matters
A JD degree from an accredited law school
Proven ability to drive results and take initiative as a proactive self-starter
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate ideas into value-added solutions
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with internal clients and external advisors
Well-developed organizational, time management, planning, and prioritization skills
Willingness to develop skills and experience in other areas of taxation
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications would be beneficial:
Experience working with a law firm, national public accounting firm, and/or a large multi-national corporation
An LLM degree from an accredited law school
Salary and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 to $135,000 annually, plus bonus and benefits. Our benefits package includes:
