Key Responsibilities Prepares for each instructional session by gathering and preparing materials as needed Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student Instructs students according to the design of the Sylvan programs, creating balanced and robust learning experiences Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment, using praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn Motivates students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards Records and tracks tokens earned by students, managing the conclusion of each instructional session and completion of learning log and transition activities Supports procedures to ensure student safety and well-being, communicating specific student needs to Center staff Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed, staying up-to-date on the latest teaching methodologies and best practices Essential Qualifications To be successful as a Sylvan Teacher, you will need: A four-year degree or equivalent in a relevant field (Language Arts and Study Skills, Math, or related discipline) State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired) preferred, particularly for Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience, preferably in a classroom or small group setting Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers, with a strong understanding of math concepts for Math Program Teachers Familiarity with general office equipment, such as copiers, printers, and office phones, as well as tablet computers Preferred Qualifications In addition to the essential qualifications, we prefer candidates with: Experience working with children in a class or small group setting, particularly for Homework Support, SAT/ACT Prep, State Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers Familiarity with the SAT and/or ACT and STAAR testing, especially for test prep tutors A strong passion for education and a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of our students Skills and Competencies To excel as a Sylvan Teacher, you will need: Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn, with strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible, with strong problem-solving and customer service skills A team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the success of our team Career Growth Opportunities At Sylvan Learning, we are committed to supporting the growth and development of our employees.
