Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teaching Assistant to support our elementary school students with disabilities. As a key member of our educational team, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide individualized instruction, behavioral support, and care to students with diverse needs. Your primary focus will be to assist and enhance the educational process of students with disabilities in both instructional and non-instructional activities. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in meeting the needs of special education students, including providing individualized instruction, behavioral support, and care Reinforce information and instructions following a lesson, and work with students individually or in small groups in academic studies, basic life skills, and other assigned instruction Implement behavior modification plans and procedures designed for individual students when necessary, and maintain confidentiality regarding students Maintain positive relationships with all students, school staff, and parents, and observe and record student's progress Assist individual or groups of students during activities, including recess, lunch, and getting children safely on and off the bus Assist with hygiene and toileting activities, which might include transferring and lifting students, and sanitize classroom and equipment using approved materials Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following essential qualifications: Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Current Illinois Substitute Teaching License, or Current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, or 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution High school diploma, or equivalent, plus 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test, or high school diploma, or equivalent, plus 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents Current Illinois Short Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional, with a minimum age of 19 years old, and proof of high school graduation Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in an elementary school setting Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, behavior management, and positive reinforcement Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, teachers, and other support staff Working knowledge of computers and basic programs, as well as basic record-keeping methods Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other support staff Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Physical ability to lift, transfer, and assist students as needed, with the ability to push/pull items up to 80 lbs Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Workwarp, we are committed to providing our employees with opportunities for career growth and professional development.
