Job Overview
We are seeking an exceptional and compassionate Special Education Teacher Assistant to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher Assistant, you will work closely with our Special Education Teachers to support the academic, behavioral, and health/hygiene needs of our students. Key Responsibilities
Assist Special Education Teachers in planning and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with specialized needs
Provide one-on-one support to students, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals
Develop and implement strategies to support students with behavioral and emotional challenges
Collaborate with other education professionals, such as occupational therapists and speech therapists, to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support
Assist with daily living skills, such as feeding, toileting, and hygiene, as needed
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices in special education
Maintain accurate records and reports on student progress, including IEP goals and objectives
Essential Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in special education or a related field preferred
Experience working with students with specialized needs, either in a educational or care-giving setting
Knowledge of best practices for working with children and young adults with specialized needs, or the ability to obtain this knowledge through training and professional development
Ability to lift and move up to thirty pounds without assistance, or to assist with lifting and moving up to fifty pounds
Ability to hold a license with the Illinois State Board of Education within sixty working days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field
Experience working in an educational setting, preferably in a special education classroom
Knowledge of Illinois State Board of Education regulations and policies
Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment
Bilingual or multilingual skills
Skills and Competencies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students with specialized needs
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite
