As a Teacher Assistant, you will work closely with our certified teachers to provide individualized support to students with special needs. Key Responsibilities As a Special Education Teacher Assistant, your key responsibilities will include: Working with individual and small groups of students to reinforce skills taught by the teacher in basic language, mathematics, reading, and social skills Assisting students with special health care needs and providing support with daily living activities Modeling good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students and providing feedback on their progress Assisting the classroom teacher with instructional planning, material preparation, and display of student work Supervising independent student study and providing guidance and support as needed Attending and participating in professional development activities to enhance your skills and knowledge Collaborating with colleagues, supervisors, and students to create a positive and inclusive learning environment Assisting with physical activities, such as playground duty, and providing support with large motor skills development Maintaining confidentiality regarding all aspects of your work with special education children and other staff Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A high school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in special education or a related field preferred Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a educational setting Ability to operate a computer and related software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred: Certification in special education or a related field, such as autism or behavioral support Experience working with students with severe disabilities, such as physical or intellectual disabilities Knowledge of behavioral support strategies and techniques, such as positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) Experience with assistive technology, such as text-to-speech software or communication devices Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate with students and families from diverse backgrounds Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members, both verbally and in writing Interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members, including those from diverse backgrounds Organizational skills: ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Technical skills: ability to operate a computer and related software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Adaptability: ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities in a dynamic educational environment Compassion and empathy: ability to provide emotional support and understanding to students with special needs and their families Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Special Education Teacher Assistant, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development opportunities, such as training and workshops, to enhance your skills and knowledge Mentorship and coaching from experienced teachers and staff members Opportunities to work with students with diverse needs and abilities, including those with severe disabilities Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including teachers, therapists, and support staff Access to assistive technology and resources to support student learning and engagement Work Environment and Company Culture Our company culture is built on a foundation of respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
