The Risk Finance team, a critical component of the company's Corporate Planning and Analysis (CP&A) division, is responsible for planning, forecasting, and evaluating global Loss Provision and Credit Reserves. This team provides credit-related decision support to Risk Management, local Finance, and business groups on underwriting, customer management, credit, and collections activities. We are now seeking an experienced and skilled Director of Data Science and Analytics to lead our Global Data Strategy group within Risk Finance.

Job Overview
This 100% remote position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work from anywhere, with full control over their work environment. As the Director of Data Science and Analytics, you will be responsible for leading the strategic analysis of AXP credit metrics, credit provision, and reserve for Senior Management in Risk and Finance. You will own and manage specific data assets/packages within Risk Finance, becoming a subject matter expert in the applicable tools and driving adoption across the organization. Your primary goal will be to build and maintain centralized reporting capabilities, implement process enhancements and automation, and ultimately drive innovative data solutions to provide robust forecasts and analytics for the wider Risk Finance organization.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the strategic analysis of AXP credit metrics, credit provision, and reserve for Senior Management in Risk and Finance, providing actionable insights and recommendations to inform business decisions
Own and manage specific data assets/packages within Risk Finance, including troubleshooting issues, reconciling results, identifying enhancements and automation opportunities, and training other users to drive adoption
Develop and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports used by Risk Finance and/or business partners, providing credit-related analytical support and ensuring data quality and integrity
Develop and present key analyses and recommendations to Senior Management, communicating complex data insights and technical concepts in a clear and concise manner
Build and maintain relationships across Risk Finance portfolio groups and with partners in Risk, Controllership, Tech, and other stakeholders, fostering collaboration and driving business outcomes
Provide decision-support with a strong emphasis on developing analytics that identify trends and opportunities in the portfolio, enabling optimized Business and Risk decisions


Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

Advanced experience working with most of the following: SQL/Hive, Power BI/Tableau, Python/R, VBA, TM1, with a strong foundation in data analysis, modeling, and visualization
Experience working with a high level of Excel and PowerPoint, including data manipulation, analysis, and presentation
Experience in ML modeling is a plus, with a strong understanding of machine learning concepts and techniques
Solid financial and analytical skills, with the ability to work with large datasets and draw meaningful conclusions, empowering business partners to make informed, data-driven decisions
Superior attention to detail, alongside exemplary organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work within tight timelines
Must be results-driven and proactive, with a strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills, showcasing the ability to build and maintain relationships and collaborate effectively with team members to achieve goals
Master's degree in advanced mathematics or statistical discipline required, with a strong academic foundation in quantitative analysis and data science


Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following preferred qualifications will be highly regarded:

Experience working in a similar role within the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of risk finance and credit analysis
Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and tools, such as AWS or Azure, with experience in data migration and integration
Experience with agile project management methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, with a strong understanding of iterative development and continuous improvement
Strong business acumen, with a deep understanding of the financial services industry and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
