A Typical Day in the Life of a Data Engineer Develop and automate large-scale, high-performance data processing systems (batch and streaming) to support Airbnb's growth and enhance product experiences. Build scalable Spark data pipelines using the Airflow scheduler/executor framework. Design data models for optimal storage and retrieval, aligned with critical product and business needs. Influence and improve logging practices to support data flow architecture. Contribute to shared Data Engineering tools and standards to enhance productivity and quality across the team. Enhance data quality by utilizing and improving internal tools to automatically detect issues. Your Expertise and Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong foundation in data engineering, a passion for delivering high-quality data solutions, and excellent communication skills. The essential qualifications for this role include: 2-4 years of relevant industry experience, with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or a Master's degree in lieu of experience). Proven ability to analyze large datasets, identify gaps and inconsistencies, and provide data insights to drive effective product solutions. Experience in designing and deploying high-performance systems with reliable monitoring and logging. Proficiency in relational databases and SQL query authoring. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred qualifications include experience with cloud-based data platforms, expertise in data modeling and data warehousing, and knowledge of machine learning and data science concepts.
