Job Responsibilities As the Chief Architect, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining a global payments platform that interfaces with various systems inside and outside Wayfair. Your key responsibilities will include: Acting as the technical lead in the payments space, designing and building a platform that connects with multiple systems and partner globally Developing and driving a long-term technology strategy for Wayfair's fintech and loyalty environment Designing and reviewing code to implement high-quality, scalable, and future-proof services that meet system limits and support long-term vision and strategy Leading technical discussions across the platform and helping to reach solid documented resolutions Driving high-impact building solutions and involved development, including initiation, design, implementation, and delivery following good design and coding practices Fanatically focusing on production readiness for the team, including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting Identifying risks and gaps in technical approaches and proposing solutions to meet the department's technical vision Impacting and contributing to the division's strategy and roadmap Supporting the growth of other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and creating other opportunities for training Being remotely recognized as a collaborative and trustworthy subject matter expert for the broader team's core area Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: 4+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large company experience Strong technical skills, with expertise in payments engineering, particularly experience with larger scope integrations (Visa, funding, BNPL, applications) Experience with internet businesses or customer-facing technology on a high-traffic website is a significant plus Active experience leading software changes within high-growth environments at scale Excellent communication skills, with experience leading teams forward and the ability to influence results Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience with cloud-native technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) at scale Distributed systems experience Data-based technologies in the cloud Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong technical leadership and architecture skills Excellent communication and collaboration skills Ability to drive technical discussions and influence results Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on production readiness Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Wayfair, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
