About the Role: Principal Database Engineer As a Principal Database Engineer at FinThrive, you will play a critical role in driving the architecture and operational support for our large, complex database platform. This platform powers a key foundational FinThrive product, and your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring its performance, scalability, and reliability. You will work closely with multiple software development scrum teams, providing database refactoring, coding, and performance tuning support to drive business outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Take full ownership and responsibility for the architecture and operational support of our large, complex database platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability. Collaborate with software development scrum teams to provide database refactoring, coding, and performance tuning support, driving business outcomes and delivering exceptional results. Work in a self-directed, proactive manner to identify problems and opportunities for improvement, seeing them through to implementation and driving continuous improvement. Interface with application engineering, product management, application architecture, and infrastructure DBA teams to drive solutions and improvements to the data platform, ensuring alignment and collaboration. Proactively monitor performance and failure scenarios within the database platform, iteratively driving improvements to automated monitoring and alerting, and ensuring prompt response to production incidents/outages. Respond to related production incidents/outages as the primary database on-call resource, taking point on database-related restoration and root-cause-analysis activities, and collaborating with DBA, infrastructure, and application support teams. Craft and refine a roadmap to drive simplification and modernization of the database architecture, collaborating with the application engineering team to deliver exceptional results. Identify performance capacity requirements by analyzing workloads and taking information from prospective product onboarding plans, ensuring proactive planning and resource allocation. Essential Qualifications and Skills: To succeed in this role, you will need: 5+ years of SQL Server DBA and database development experience, with a deep understanding of SQL Server, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, SQL Server Replication Services, and SQL Server Integration services deployment, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Firsthand experience with managing SQL Server data replication/synchronization technologies to facilitate high availability and disaster recovery scenarios. Significant experience with resolving complex technical SQL Server database-related issues, with a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset. Excellent understanding of and experience with relational database architecture and database implementations/monitoring/maintenance within SQL Server. Experience automating SQL Server administration tasks and workflows, with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and reliability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's Degree in MIS, IT, Computer Science, or a related field, with a strong foundation in computer science and software engineering principles. Knowledge of Transparent Data Encryption, with experience implementing and managing encryption technologies in large-scale database environments. Firm understanding of Azure database technologies, including Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, with experience deploying and managing cloud-based database solutions.
