Position Overview

As a Pharmacy Customer Service Associate at arenaflex, you will play a crucial role in supporting our pharmacy operations and ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of service. This position involves a combination of retail customer service, prescription processing, and inventory management responsibilities. You will work closely with our pharmacists and pharmacy leadership to deliver seamless service that enhances the customer experience and supports optimal patient outcomes.

This is a full-time position requiring 8 hours per day, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. While the position is based in Illinois, certain aspects of the role may involve remote components, and we provide the necessary training and technology to support your success.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Experience and Engagement


Greet and engage customers and patients in a friendly, welcoming manner, making them feel valued and appreciated
Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally to ensure a positive customer experience
Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, including warm greetings, positive body language, and genuine courtesy
Proactively offer assistance, identify customer needs, and provide solutions until the customer is completely satisfied
Recommend appropriate products and services, including cross-selling and upselling opportunities
Handle customer complaints with empathy and patience, following company policies to achieve satisfactory resolutions


Point of Sale and Retail Operations


Process customer purchases accurately using the designated sales register, ensuring proper handling of cash, credit, and digital payments
Collect payments, make change, and process voids, returns, exchanges, and refunds as needed
Guide customers to relevant store sections, particularly the Over-The-Counter (OTC) aisle, to help them find products independently when possible
Maintain clean, well-organized counters and displays, ensuring products are properly stocked and attractively presented
Complete price checks and inventory counts as directed by senior management or shift supervisors
Support promotional, seasonal, and sale displays by executing resets and corrections according to planograms


Pharmacy Operations Support


Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in accordance with state and federal regulations, in the practice of pharmacy
Utilize pharmacy systems to accurately enter patient and medication information and process prescriptions
Retrieve, count, and pour prescription medications, verifying accuracy before dispensing
Check medications for correctness and identify potential drug interactions or contraindications
Support pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining pharmacy workflow efficiency
Report prescription errors to the on-duty pharmacist immediately, adhering to organization policies and quality improvement programs
Handle phone calls that do not require the pharmacist's direct attention, including physician inquiries
Process manual claims for third-party prescription programs efficiently and perform other administrative duties as assigned


Inventory Management


Support pharmacy division inventory management activities, including ordering, unloading, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments
Maintain awareness of organization asset security procedures
Report warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods, including prescription medications
Ensure compliance with state and local regulations regarding controlled substances, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco products
Assist with food item organization and proper product placement according to company procedures
Support inventory rotation using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method and manage restockouts


Additional Store Support


Provide customer service in the photo area, including digital photo printing, banner printing, and creative machine operations
Handle special photo product sales and promotions
Assist with online order fulfillment, including screening orders, picking items, and delivering orders to customers as they arrive
Support internal and external maintenance by ensuring clean, tidy, and well-organized store conditions
Comply with all company policies and procedures while maintaining respectful relationships with colleagues
Complete special projects and other assignments as directed by management


Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Qualifications


Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred; however, equivalent experience will be considered
Language Skills: Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English (with the exception of Puerto Rico)
Availability: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Mathematical Skills: Strong mathematical abilities for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications
Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and familiarity with store systems and equipment
Certifications: Willingness to obtain PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification through the designated training program or state-required certification


Preferred Qualifications


Six months or more of experience in a retail customer service environment
Previous experience in pharmacy or healthcare settings
Familiarity with pharmacy operations, prescription processing, and medication dispensing
Strong knowledge of store inventory control procedures
Previous experience with pharmacy technician duties or similar roles
PTCB certification or willingness to obtain it
