About the Role We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Child Care Worker 8-E9 – Pediatric Mental Health Tech to join our team at the Hawthorn Center in Westland, MI. As a Child Care Worker, you will play a vital role in providing direct care services to children and adolescents under the supervision of a registered nurse. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for our patients, providing physical care, support, guidance, and supervision in daily activities consistent with the treatment plan and milieu program. Key Responsibilities Provide direct care services to children and adolescents, including physical care, support, and supervision in daily activities Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being Implement aspects of the treatment plan through patient interactions, teaching, and developing self-care and social skills Organize and participate in patient activities, promoting socialization, recreation, and education Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive care Document patient progress, behaviors, and incidents, maintaining accurate and timely records Qualifications and Requirements To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements: Essential Qualifications Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits), including 15 semester (22 term) credits in one or a combination of the following human service areas: psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, special education, audiology, speech pathology, recreation therapy, music therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, child care, child development counseling and guidance, human services, family relations, behavioral science, or a related field Child Care Worker 8: No specific type or amount of experience is required Child Care Worker E9: One year of experience equivalent to a Child Care Worker 8 and completion of the Department of Health and Human Services' approved training program Preferred Qualifications Three years of experience as a Youth Specialist may be substituted for the education and experience requirements Previous experience working in a pediatric mental health setting or with children and adolescents with special needs Knowledge of child development principles, behavioral management techniques, and crisis intervention strategies Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams Strong observational and documentation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends Commitment to providing high-quality patient care, with a focus on safety, dignity, and respect Career Growth and Development At MDHHS, we are committed to supporting the career growth and development of our employees.
