Highland One World is a small educational charity based in Inverness, Scotland, dedicated to promoting social justice and sustainability through Global Citizenship Education. Our mission is to empower children and young people with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to contribute to a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. We achieve this through the delivery of training and events, as well as the development of resources. As one of the five Development Education Centres (DECS) in Scotland and part of the International Development Education Association Scotland (IDEAS) network, we collaborate with other organizations to promote Global Citizenship Education across Scotland, the UK, and beyond.

Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an experienced Part-time Finance Officer to join our team and manage the financial administration of Highland One World. This role involves overseeing the organization's budget and cash flow, as well as performing day-to-day financial administration duties. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our Treasurer, external accountant, and Coordinator to maintain and develop effective financial management systems, processes, and procedures.

Main Responsibilities

Ongoing Responsibilities:

Ensure adherence to financial regulations and standards within the organization, working with the Treasurer, external accountant, and Coordinator to maintain and develop effective financial management systems, processes, and procedures.
Represent HOW in dealings with HMRC, the HOW payroll and pension provider, external accountant, and the bank.
Collaborate with the staff and Trustees to provide financial insights and support decision-making.

Monthly Responsibilities:

Ensure all financial transactions are properly authorized, recorded, and tracked in Quickbooks according to HOW financial procedures, project contracts, and the standards outlined by HMRC and OSCR.
Timely and accurate bank reconciliations, monitoring of expenditure levels against budget and funding obligations.
Perform required tasks related to the monthly HOW payroll, including liaison with outsourced payroll provider, paying salaries by BACS, and ensuring all information and payments relating to the payroll are sent in a timely manner.

Quarterly Responsibilities:

Submission of timely and reliable reports and financial projections to the HOW Treasurer in preparation for Board meetings.

Annually Responsibilities:

Preparation of end-of-year accounts with the Treasurer and external accountant.

Occasional/Ad-hoc Responsibilities:

Support the Coordinator with the preparation of budgets for funding applications and reports to funders.
Support project-specific financial audit or spot-check processes if required.
Attend occasional Team or Board meetings, and online meetings with finance staff from other Development Education Centres in Scotland.



Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Part-time Finance Officer who possesses the following qualifications and experience:

Essential Qualifications:

Relevant accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
Experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Strong understanding of financial regulations and standards, including HMRC and OSCR requirements.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience working in a charity or non-profit organization.
Knowledge of Quickbooks or similar accounting software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
