Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher, ensuring that students receive the support and guidance they need to succeed.
Familiarize yourself with IEP goals and objectives for students in the classroom, working closely with the certified teacher to develop and implement personalized learning plans.
Facilitate the implementation of functional community-based curriculum, providing students with opportunities to develop essential life skills and independence.
Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures, maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
Document student behavior as directed by the teacher, providing valuable insights and feedback to support student growth and development.
Supervise IEP'd students during lunch, recess, arrival and departure times, and/or community trips during assigned work hours as needed, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
Help in the loading and unloading of student buses at school and on trips during assigned work hours as needed, demonstrating a commitment to student safety and transportation.
Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher, providing support and guidance as needed.
Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity specific to the students' IEP, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials, and provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student-para interactions, ensuring that students receive the support and guidance they need to succeed.
Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
Other duties as assigned, demonstrating a commitment to flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment.


Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:


A Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator, or Provisional Educator License, with a minimum education requirement of completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
Bilingual – Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents in both languages.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents to achieve common goals.
Experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in a special education or exceptional needs program.
Physical agility and quick response time, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform other physical demands of the job.

Experience working with students with cognitive challenges in the moderate to severe range.
Knowledge of functional community-based curriculum and its application in a special education setting.
Experience with behavioral programs and procedures, including positive behavioral supports and interventions.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to collaboration and communication.
