We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Before and After School Instructor to join our team at Smith Elementary in Sammamish, WA, as part of our Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program. About the Role As a Lead Before and After School Instructor, you will play a vital role in guiding elementary-age participants through engaging sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on learning activities. You will work closely with our program supervisor to support the development of teamwork and social-emotional learning skills in children, while promoting creative exploration, physical activity, and fun. This is a full-time, onsite position that requires a strong passion for working with children and a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the YMCA's curriculum framework. Supervise groups of children to ensure their health, safety, and overall experience. Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing children's activities. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians on a day-to-day basis, sharing confidential and evaluative information as needed. Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures. Maintain a developmentally appropriate site environment, including appearance, decor, and cleanliness. Prepare and serve snacks, clean snack areas, and assist with check-in/check-out procedures. Assume responsibility for program operation when designated DCYF staff are not present. Provide onsite support for the school-based Play Everyday Program. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications 18 years of age or older. 2 or more years of experience working with children in camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying. Ability to model and demonstrate YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty. Experience planning and implementing group activities. Completion of 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and possession of a GED or high school diploma. Certification in CPR/First Aid. TB test by Mantoux method. Food worker card. Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT. Preferred Qualifications 21 years of age or older. Leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years). Knowledge of and experience working with diverse populations. Ability to speak a language in addition to English. Other relevant education, training, and experience that demonstrate the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills. Compensation and Schedule The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $22-$24.20 per hour, depending on experience. The schedule for this full-time, onsite position includes: Monday to Friday, 6:45 am to start of school. Monday to Friday, end of school to 6:00 pm. Additional hours may be required on non-school days and early release days. 2 days of Play Everyday Program support from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Why Join Our Team?
