The Operations Research & Data Science Team: Where Analytics Meets Aviation

The Operations Research and Data Science team at arenaflex is responsible for developing sophisticated models that support multiple critical business functions across the airline. Our work directly influences:


Revenue Management: Optimizing pricing strategies and inventory control to maximize profitability while offering competitive fares to our customers
Cargo Operations: Enhancing freight logistics and shipment tracking to ensure reliable cargo services

As an intern on this team, you'll contribute to projects that have real-world implications, working with massive datasets to uncover patterns, predict behaviors, and recommend actions that shape the future of air travel.

What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities

During this immersive summer internship, you will engage in meaningful work that directly impacts arenaflex's operations and customer satisfaction. Your responsibilities will include:


Conducting exploratory data analysis on airline datasets from multiple internal and external sources to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization
Writing Python scripts to manipulate, clean, and transform large datasets for analytical purposes and model development
Building predictive models using statistical and machine learning techniques to forecast behaviors such as passenger demand, flight delays, and equipment failures
Collaborating with cross-functional teams across Revenue Management, Cargo, Customer Experience, and Tech Operations to understand business requirements and deliver data-driven solutions
Presenting findings and recommendations to Operations Research leadership and business stakeholders in a clear, compelling manner
Contributing to the development of dashboards and reporting tools that enable business leaders to make informed decisions
Working independently while actively seeking guidance and clarification when needed

At the conclusion of the summer internship, you will present a comprehensive overview of your work to the Operations Research team and business leadership, showcasing your contributions and the impact of your analytical insights.

What We're Looking For: Minimum Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should meet the following minimum requirements:


Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with at least two years completed by Summer 2024
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Degree emphasis in Information Science, Data Analysis, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
Proficiency in Python programming and SQL for data manipulation and analysis
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Demonstrated leadership potential and the ability to work effectively in team environments

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-office collaboration with remote work flexibility. Most teams operate on a hybrid schedule with management approval, allowing for collaborative in-office days while maintaining flexibility for remote work.
