Position Overview The Guest Special Education Teaching Assistant position is an on-call, as-needed role that requires flexibility and reliability. Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, you will assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs and at-risk students. Key Responsibilities Assist the classroom teacher in planning, preparing, and delivering instructional activities that cater to the diverse needs of students with special needs Provide individualized support to students, including academic assistance, behavioral guidance, and emotional support Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social interaction, respect, and empathy among students Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensure that students receive the support and accommodations they require Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement strategies that meet the unique needs of each student Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and attendance, and communicate effectively with parents and guardians Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in special education and stay up-to-date with best practices Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following licensure requirements: Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Current Illinois Substitute Teaching License Current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator If you do not already hold a Teaching/Substitute License, you may be eligible for a Paraprofessional Educator license if you have: An Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution A high school diploma or equivalent, plus a score of 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test A high school diploma or equivalent, plus a score of 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents Alternatively, you may be eligible for a Current Illinois Short Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional if you meet the following requirements: Minimum age of 19 years old Application in ELIS ($50 application fee) Proof of high school graduation (copy of diploma, transcript, or GED) Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working with special needs children or in a related field Ability and willingness to work at least 3 days per week Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with students, teachers, and parents Flexibility and adaptability in responding to the changing needs of students and the classroom environment Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and competencies: Strong understanding of special education principles and practices Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing needs and circumstances Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents and guardians Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Guest Special Education Teaching Assistant with Workwarp, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in special education Mentorship and support from experienced teachers and educators Opportunities to work with a diverse range of students and develop your ability to adapt to different learning styles and needs Collaboration with a team of dedicated educators who are passionate about delivering high-quality educational support Opportunities for career advancement and professional growth within the organization Work Environment and Company Culture At Workwarp, we are committed to creating a positive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
