**Experienced Full Stack Data Engineer – Distributed NoSQL/NewSQL Database Development and Operations**

**The Team You'll Join**

arenaflex's Data Engineering team is part of our Web Services organization, which is responsible for developing and maintaining arenaflex's internet infrastructure and data platforms. Our team is dedicated to building a next-generation, open-source NewSql database that runs on top of stateful Kubernetes, providing a unified storage backend for arenaflex's online data, including KVStore, GraphDB, and more. With clients worldwide, our team focuses on delivering a highly available, scalable, and secure database system that meets the needs of our global user base.

**The Impact You'll Make**

As a Staff or Senior Staff-level data engineer, you'll join a team of experienced engineers working on a cutting-edge distributed database system. Your expertise will be instrumental in tackling complex technical challenges in the following areas:

### Database Substrate

* Design and maintain the overall environment around our NewSql database, including monitoring, authorization, service discovery, and more.
* Be the go-to expert for stateful systems running on top of Kubernetes, interacting with AWS networking and security APIs.
* Configure, automate, and document database operations, ensuring seamless execution for the team.

### Database Flexibility

* Conduct in-depth analysis of all arenaflex disaster recovery scenarios, leveraging existing open-source and designing custom software that meets arenaflex's requirements for database backup and restore, cross-region data flexibility, PiTR, and more.
* Collaborate with vendors and open-source communities to define the right approach for data flexibility.

### Database Server

* Review and contribute to existing open-source code to understand the system's functionality and design, proposing and implementing upgrades to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability.
* Contribute code, documentation, and bug fixes back to the open-source community.
* Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in database technologies and distributed systems, exploring new tools and innovations to enhance the database framework.

### Mentorship and Leadership

* Participate in regular check-ins with key stakeholders to gain insights on trouble spots and areas for improvement, enhancing the team's functional thoroughness.
* Mentor junior team members, guiding them on prioritizing tasks and tackling complex problems, providing thoughtful code and design review feedback.

**Your Skills**

* 9+ years of relevant industry experience
* Active involvement in building and operating distributed NoSQL or NewSQL databases and services
* Strong understanding of systems and infrastructure fundamentals
* Experience in deep diving and refactoring complex codebases
* Ability to write clean, clear, testable, and efficient code
* Capacity to break down large-scale distributed systems and troubleshoot issues in a productive manner
* Strong collaboration and communication skills in a remote work environment
* Familiarity with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their Storage, VM, Networking, and Security offerings

**Your Location**

This position is US-Remote Qualified, with occasional work at an arenaflex office or participation in offsites, as agreed upon with your manager. While the position is Remote Qualified, you must reside in a state where arenaflex, Inc. has an enrolled entity. Please refer to our list of excluded states for more information.
