Our global audience looks to us for expertly written and curated editorial that informs, inspires, and sparks meaningful conversations. As an Evening and Weekend Writer, you'll be instrumental in maintaining our high editorial standards and contributing to our legacy of celebrating Black culture in all its forms. Key Responsibilities Identify Trending Topics: Stay ahead of the curve by identifying viral moments and trending topics in Black culture, entertainment, and more. Craft Compelling Content: Write and self-publish engaging, timely news articles with clean copy and strong headlines that capture the essence of our audience's interests. Ensure Editorial Excellence: Self-edit and review news content for accuracy, errors, verified sources, and relevance to maintain our high editorial standards. Amplify Our Reach: Share live articles on VIBE's Facebook and Twitter accounts to drive engagement and expand our online presence. Deliver Consistently: Maintain a consistently high editorial standard while delivering exceptional and informative content to our audience, working from Wednesdays through Sundays with occasional special events coverage. Essential Qualifications and Skills To succeed as an Evening and Weekend Writer at VIBE, you'll need: 2+ Years of Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as an editor and news writer, with a proven track record of producing high-quality content under deadline. Social Media Savvy: An active social media user who stays on top of entertainment news and trends, with a deep understanding of how to leverage social platforms to drive engagement. Editorial Judgment: Sound editorial judgment and a flair for storytelling, with the ability to identify and craft compelling narratives that resonate with our audience. SEO and AP Stylebook Knowledge: A strong understanding of breaking news protocol, SEO best practices, and the Associated Press Stylebook, with the ability to apply these skills in a fast-paced environment. Technical Skills: Proficiency in WordPress, with familiarity in Canva and/or Photoshop a plus. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications can make you a more competitive candidate: Experience in Black Culture and Entertainment: A deep understanding of Black culture and its multi-cultural impact on music, TV/film, fashion, and lifestyle. Portfolio: A strong portfolio that showcases your writing and editorial skills, with examples of your ability to craft compelling narratives and engage audiences.
