Job Summary As an Elementary School Monitor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students while on school grounds. This includes monitoring student behavior and activities during lunch periods and recess, both indoors and outdoors, to maintain appropriate behavior and safety according to established guidelines. You will also direct students in the proper use of school equipment and facilities, prevent and intervene in student arguments or fights, and provide support to instructors and students as needed. Key Responsibilities Monitor student activities during lunch periods and recess to ensure appropriate behavior and safety is maintained according to established guidelines Direct students in the proper use of school equipment and facilities Prevent and intervene in student arguments or fights Intercept unfamiliar personnel on school grounds, request identification, and direct them to the school office Assist instructors in providing first aid to students and accompany injured students to the school nurse Perform basic clerical and support duties, including providing library or office assistance (e.g., filing, copying, answering phones, sorting/distributing mail) Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a High School Diploma and have previous education, training, work, or life experience that provides reasonable evidence of successful performance in similar tasks. A valid Alaska Driver's License is also required. Additionally, you should have knowledge of children's games and outdoor sports, as well as the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or picture forms. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting Basic first aid and CPR certification Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents Physical ability to supervise students outside in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents. You should also be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving several variables in children's play situations. Additionally, you will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
