Job Summary We're seeking an experienced Elementary School Library Media Specialist to lead our library program at Northville Elementary School. As a Library Media Specialist, you will be responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive library environment that supports the diverse needs of our students. You will work closely with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement engaging library lessons and programs that promote literacy, critical thinking, and creativity. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a library program that meets the needs of students in grades K-5, including planning and delivering library lessons, managing the library collection, and maintaining a safe and welcoming library environment. Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to integrate library skills and resources into the curriculum, promoting a love of reading and learning across the school. Provide instruction and support to students in the use of library resources, including technology and digital tools. Maintain a current and diverse library collection that reflects the needs and interests of our students. Participate in district-wide initiatives and collaborate with other library media specialists to share best practices and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies. Develop and maintain a system for tracking and evaluating student progress and library program effectiveness. Communicate with parents and the broader community about the library program and its impact on student learning. Qualifications and Requirements To be considered for this role, you must have: A valid and current Connecticut State Certificate in Library Media. A degree from an accredited college or university. Experience working in an elementary school library or a similar setting. Strong knowledge of library principles, practices, and technologies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students. Preferred qualifications include: Experience with library automation systems and digital resources. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in library media, including maker spaces and STEM education. Experience with curriculum design and implementation. A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with the latest technologies and trends.
