As a key member of the Education and Public Programs Department, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of museum education through the development and implementation of engaging digital and virtual learning experiences. About the J. Paul Getty Museum and its Mission The J. Paul Getty Museum operates two facilities: the Getty Villa in Malibu, showcasing Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, displaying an extensive collection of European art. With a commitment to inspiring curiosity and enjoyment of the visual arts, the Museum mounts numerous temporary exhibitions, maintains a permanent gallery improvement program, and offers diverse programming for its visitors. As part of the J. Paul Getty Trust, the Museum is dedicated to collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement the Getty's digital engagement strategy, focusing on innovative virtual content to enhance audience engagement at both the Getty Center and Getty Villa. Oversee the Virtual Art Explorations program, cultivating partnerships and aligning with content providers to expand the department's digital project portfolio. Design and develop interactive, learner-centered digital content for national and global delivery through virtual classrooms. Improve market strategy to maximize engagement for diverse user populations across Getty's digital educational resources. Establish relationships with K12 teachers, administrators, and districts to ascertain needs, create goals, and devise new content strategies. Evaluate and test online tools and educational technology platforms, providing data comparison, evaluation, and analysis. Guide the development of culturally relevant online content for K12 audiences, aligned with state and national standards. Supervise and mentor digital teaching interns and collaborate with K12, Gallery Education, and docent program teams to ensure effective virtual training and content delivery. Optimize project management functions through proactive communications, design plans, timelines, and status checks for all digital projects. Serve as a strategic thought partner in content development, providing recommendations for the future direction of Getty's digital learning and engagement team. Qualifications and Requirements Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in museum education, art education, art history, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. 5-8 years of project/process management and subject area experience. Knowledge of museum education best practices, teaching pedagogy, and content development in online environments. Commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion principles for audience engagement. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in education, education technology, learning technology, museum education, art education, art history, or a closely related field. Proven thought leader on existing and emerging digital learning technology and learning management systems. Deep knowledge in digital and virtual learning, instructional design, and various formats, including synchronous and asynchronous options. Familiarity with UX design and optimizing user experiences. Proven experience in curriculum development, instructional design, modeling and coaching, and facilitating professional development experiences. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for building effective working relationships at all levels within the Museum. Skills and Competencies The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of skills and competencies, including: Expertise in e-learning instructional and informational design, content treatment, and media. Effective online delivery strategies and platforms. Ability to think creatively and leverage new technologies to expand outreach and program impact. Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize digital workflows and lead concurrent projects. Experience planning, forecasting, and managing a budget.
