Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Economic Geologist to join our team, working remotely with occasional travel to mine sites and other locations as required. The successful candidate will have a strong background in geology, with a minimum of 3 years of experience or a Master's degree in geology or a related field. You will be responsible for conducting field, laboratory, and desktop studies of critical commodity resource data, compiling geologic data, and providing institutional and public service through workshops, presentations, and outreach activities.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct field, laboratory, and desktop studies of critical commodity resource data, emphasizing geologic mapping, geochemistry, and mine waste characterization.
Compile geologic data, historic mine records, and conduct mine site visits and sampling campaigns.
Utilize ArcGIS geodatabase construction and familiarity with the USGS GeMS schema.
Engage in extensive fieldwork at active and inactive mine sites, including quadrangle geologic mapping in remote and challenging terrain.
Provide institutional and public service through workshops, presentations, and outreach activities.
Offer mineralogy and geochemistry expertise to other MBMG programs.


Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

A Bachelor's degree in geology or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or a Master's degree in geology or a related field by June 30, 2024.
Completion of fundamental courses in geologic mapping and related subjects.
Excellent communication skills.
Proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheet software.
A valid driver's license or the ability to acquire one.


Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

M.S. in geology and geologic mapping experience.
Proficiency with GIS.
Experience in collecting, managing, and interpreting geoscience sample data.
Professional experience related to economic geology, mineralogy, acid mine drainage, GIS, mineral processing, and/or field geology.
Demonstrated interest in critical minerals and rare earth elements.
Familiarity with the USGS critical mineral commodities list and historic precious- and base-metal deposits.
Experience with the USGS GeMS geodatabase schema.
Strong writing skills demonstrated through relevant scientific publications and reports.
