About Our Data Infrastructure Team
Our Data Infrastructure team is responsible for building and maintaining the backbone of Netflix's data-driven decision-making. We develop and operate scalable data platforms and tools that enable various business functions across the company to leverage our data effectively, safely, and efficiently. Key Focus Areas
We're currently focusing on several key areas within our Data Infrastructure team:
Data Access Platform: Building an adaptable query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to operate at sub-millisecond latencies, enabling Netflix microservices to store, consume, and manage their data more effectively.
Data Platform Infrastructure: Developing high-impact systems, control, and deployment frameworks tailored to the needs of running our data systems at scale, with a focus on Python and other programming languages.
Data Development and Processing: Offering a self-service, streamlined product to enable diverse client personas across Netflix to meet their low-latency data development and processing needs, with a focus on abstraction, automation, and reliability.
Big Data Compute: Providing a cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at Netflix, with expertise in technologies like Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, and Iceberg.
Big Data Orchestration: Developing platforms for scheduling, orchestrating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner, with a focus on event-driven and intelligent orchestration.
Responsibilities
As a Distributed Systems Specialist on our Data Infrastructure team, you'll be responsible for:
Solving real business needs at scale by applying your programming and analytical problem-solving skills.
Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure.
Driving cross-functional initiatives and collaborating with engineers, product managers, and TPMs across teams.
Sharing your experiences with the open-source communities and contributing to Netflix OSS.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems or applications.
Proficiency in designing and developing RESTful web services.
Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages.
Comfort with multi-threading and concurrent programming.
A BS in Computer Science or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, experience with the following technologies and concepts is highly desirable:
Distributed data processing frameworks like Spark, Flink, or Hadoop.
Cloud-native platforms like AWS or GCP.
