Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Distributed Systems Engineer to join our Data Platform team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and improving our infrastructure to support our aggressive goal of reaching 500 million users worldwide. We are open to remote candidates and offer a flexible work environment that allows you to work from anywhere in the U.S. Focus Areas in Data Infrastructure Teams Our Data Infrastructure teams are organized into several focus areas, each with its own unique challenges and opportunities. These include: Database Access Platform : This team builds and operates a scalable query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies while allowing arenaflex microservices to more easily store, consume, and manage their data. Data Platform Infrastructure : This team acts as a platform for our own data platforms, providing common infrastructure and tooling that enable arenaflex to rapidly innovate and deliver cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom platforms for each new system. Big Data Compute : This team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex, offering support for Flash, ETL data into the Petabytes-scale data warehouse, and accessing that data using Flash and Voila/TrinoDB. Big Data Orchestration : This team provides the platform for scheduling, coordinating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, including critical services that have all ETL and ML tasks running on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. Key Responsibilities As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, your key responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and improving our infrastructure to support our aggressive growth goals Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes and deliver value to our users Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure Driving cross-functional initiatives and working with engineers, product managers, and TPMs across teams Sharing our experiences with the open-source communities and contributing to arenaflex OSS Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications Experience with the design and development of RESTful web services Proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems A BS in Computer Science or a related field Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience with cloud-native technologies and distributed data processing Knowledge of open-source technologies and contributions to open-source projects Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems Excellent communication and collaboration skills Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong programming skills in Java or other object-oriented programming languages Experience with distributed systems, including design, development, and operation Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and distributed data processing Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and collaboration skills Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At arenaflex, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
