Position Overview

As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in our Data Engineering association, driving data-driven insights and innovation to support the data needs for business and operational initiatives with a digital-first focus. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute data acquisition, transformation, processing, and make data meaningful for operational and analysis initiatives that drive sustainable revenue and offer growth.

Key Responsibilities


Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and implement streaming and near real-time data pipelines that feed systems serving as the operational backbone of our business
Data Quality Assurance: Execute unit tests and validate expected results to ensure accuracy and integrity of data and applications through thorough analysis, coding, and clear documentation
Big Data Environment Management: Drive the adoption of data processing and analysis within the Hadoop environment and assist with cross-training team members
Business Insight Generation: Leverage analytical skills to understand and address client and business-driven questions, developing data shops and insights that provide a comprehensive understanding of the business
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate and guide cross-functional initiatives involving colleagues across all areas of the enterprise, vendors, external organizations, and partners
Innovation and Automation: Use data from multiple sources to develop innovative solutions leading to process automation and operational efficiency
Project Management: Utilize Agile methodologies to manage projects effectively and deliver results on time
Mentorship: Guide and train junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering professional growth within the team


Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:


Education: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science or related STEM field
Professional Experience: 3 years of IT experience in software development
Programming Skills: 2 years of development experience using Java, Python, or Scala
Big Data Technologies: 2 years of experience with Big Data technologies including PySpark, Hadoop, Hive, HBASE, Kafka, or Nifi
Database Systems: 2 years of experience with relational database systems such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, or Teradata
Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in English (written and spoken)
Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Essential Qualities: Creative, detail-oriented individuals who enjoy solving complex problems with data and insights; natural curiosity and desire to solve problems are essential
Reliability: Reliable, consistent attendance is an essential function of the position


Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications would be advantageous:


Master's degree in Computer Science or related STEM field
Experience with cloud-based systems such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
AWS Certified Developer or Engineer credentials
Strong experience with continuous integration and delivery using Agile methodologies
Data engineering experience in the transportation or aviation industry
Strong problem-solving abilities
In-depth knowledge of Big Data technologies and architectures
