Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and passionate Before School Childcare Instructor to join our team at Alcott Elementary in Redmond, WA. As a key member of our Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program, you will be responsible for guiding elementary age participants through a variety of engaging activities, including sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning experiences. Your goal will be to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that fosters social emotional learning, teamwork, and creative exploration. Key Responsibilities Implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum, aligning with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA Supervise a group of children to ensure their health, safety, and overall well-being, providing a positive experience for each child Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, sharing day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures Maintain a developmentally appropriate site, including appearance, dΓ©cor, and cleanliness Prepare and serve snacks, cleaning the snack area as needed Attend staff meetings and trainings as required, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: To be at least 16 years old, with 18 years or older preferred 1-2 years of experience working with children, such as in camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty Experience planning and implementing group activities, with a focus on creative exploration and social emotional learning TB Test by Mantoux method, completion of minimum STARS required training, and CPR/First Aid Training Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.) Ability to speak any language in addition to English High school diploma or equivalent, with transcripts or a copy of high school diploma required during the offer stage Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, parents, and staff Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills, with the ability to think on your feet and respond to changing situations A passion for working with children and a commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a strong work ethic and high level of ownership Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At the YMCA of Greater Seattle, we are committed to helping our staff grow and develop in their careers.
