As an Experienced Attorney I - California (Remote) - Insurance Defense and Personal Injury Litigation Specialist, you'll play a critical role in defending lawsuits against GEICO insureds and representing the company in subrogation, Uninsured Motorist (UM), and Underinsured Motorist (UIM) lawsuits. Primary Position Objectives As an Experienced Attorney I - California (Remote) - Insurance Defense and Personal Injury Litigation Specialist, your primary objectives will be to: * Defend lawsuits against GEICO insureds and represent the company in subrogation, UM, and UIM lawsuits filed in courts of limited jurisdiction and unlimited jurisdiction. * Conduct thorough research and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support your cases. * Render legal opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by your manager or the claims department. * Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath. * Defend cases by trial, arbitration, or mediation, as applicable. * Meet deadlines to respond to pleadings and correspondence. * Review files and make recommendations regarding motions for summary judgment. * Meet deadlines for the filing of motions, opposition, and reply papers. * Act as the primary contact for motion-related issues and maintain all statistics related to summary judgment motion filings, wins, and losses. * Conduct motion training classes for the benefit of attorneys, legal interns, and claims staff. Requirements and Qualifications To be considered for this role, you'll need to meet the following requirements and qualifications: * Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable. * Minimum of one year of insurance defense or personal injury litigation experience or two years of litigation experience. * Ability to think critically and make sound judgments. * Strong research and analytical skills. * Excellent communication and writing skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Strong organizational and time management skills. * Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
