Job Summary As an Afterschool Counselor/Instructor, you will play a vital role in designing and delivering engaging programs for children in grades K-5. You will work collaboratively with our team to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes social-emotional learning, creativity, and physical activity. Key Responsibilities Program Instruction & Facilitation: Teach age-appropriate skills and activities in a progressive sequence. Prepare and submit lesson plans or activities for each session. Run organized and engaging classes that promote participation and creativity. Connect program values and life skills to activities in a developmentally appropriate manner. Miscellaneous: Provide general supervision, risk management, and downtime activities for youth participants. Develop age-appropriate relationships with program participants and identify individual needs. Assist with participant supervision, attendance tracking, and check-in/check-out procedures. Coaching: Supervise and coach junior staff, providing direction and feedback as needed. Motivate youth and junior staff to participate enthusiastically in activities. Planning & Programmatic Development: Assist with parent orientations, check-in/check-out procedures, and special events. Promote theme days or group traditions to enhance program enjoyment. Ensure participants have safe and appropriate equipment, facilities, and supplies. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent certification. CPR/First Aid Certification. Knowledge of youth recreation programs, program planning, and development. Service orientation, judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in basic computer applications. Preferred Qualifications: Some college or Associate Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree.
