Position: AC Refrigeration Technician Journeyperson
Start Date: Immediate openings available
Location: Remote (onsite work required at Cornell University campus)

Key Responsibilities

As an AC Refrigeration Technician Journeyperson, you will be responsible for:


Installing, repairing, and troubleshooting refrigeration, air conditioning, and compressed air systems and controls
Performing preventative maintenance on systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency
Responding to emergency trouble calls, working effectively under pressure to resolve issues promptly
Fostering a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences, being cooperative and collaborative, and showing respect and empathy
Working in various environments, including crawl spaces, attics, laboratories, ventilation equipment, mechanical rooms, and confined/isolated areas
Using employer-provided safety equipment, including a respirator, to minimize risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height, and accumulated dirt
Working overtime as required, including weekends, and potentially shift work
Delivering heavy materials to job sites and operating a motor vehicle (your own or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites


Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must:


Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Possess at least 5 years of experience in the refrigeration or related field
Be certified as a universal technician, per 40CFR Part 82 Subpart F, and provide proof of certification
Have a basic, working knowledge of computers
Be a member of the local plumbers or electricians union, or be willing to join the union within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell
Demonstrate good customer relations, interpersonal communication, and teamwork skills
Be able to inspect and work in various environments, including crawl spaces, attics, and confined/isolated areas
Have and maintain a valid US driver's license


Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are desirable:


Apprentice certification in a relevant trade
