As a 1:1 School Paraprofessional, you will be an integral part of this ecosystem, working closely with teachers and other educational staff to provide individualized support to students with special needs. This position is crucial for ensuring that these students receive the tailored assistance they require to succeed academically and personally. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in various Special Education programs and classrooms, providing support to students with diverse needs. Deliver small group and one-on-one instruction as directed by the teacher, adapting to the individual learning plans of students. Prepare materials for lessons, correct papers, and perform other tasks that support the educational process. Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with regular and special education staff to ensure comprehensive support for students. Assist students with their individual learning and health needs, which may include providing medical or health services such as catheterization, diapering, toileting, feeding, and tube feeding. Support students with activities involving self-care and mobility, including lifting and transferring students in and out of wheelchairs. Be physically capable and trained to assist with restraining students when necessary, ensuring safety for all. Essential and Preferred Qualifications To be successful in this role, you must have: A High School Diploma or GED; an Associate degree is preferred. Previous experience working with children, particularly in educational or care settings. A valid Paraprofessional Certificate. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, staff, and students. The ability to adapt to diverse situations and student needs, showing patience and understanding. Physical stamina to lift, transfer, and restrain students as necessary. Skills and Competencies for Success To excel as a 1:1 School Paraprofessional, you will need: Knowledge of Special Education Practices: Understanding of the principles and practices that guide special education. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members. Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changing situations and student needs. Physical Ability: Capability to perform physical tasks required to support students with mobility and other needs.
