Exhibition Design Internship

The Whitney Museum seeks a Spring 2026 Exhibition Design intern to assist with exhibition planning, model making, and installation support in a hybrid paid internship. Your Role Here’s what you will be doing: • Participate in departmental design charrettes and meetings with exhibition curators to review design concepts and art layouts • Attend planning meetings involving colleagues across the institution (via Zoom and in-person) • Assist in making art layouts, scaled maquettes of artwork, study models, full scale mockups, and presentation materials • Observe and assist on the floor during construction and installation when possible About You The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications: • Currently enrolled in an architecture or related design program • Possess 2D drafting skills, preferably Vectorworks; 3D modeling skills, preferably Rhino and V-Ray; and fluency in Adobe Suite • Facility with building both study and finish models • Ability to think abstractly and creatively with attention to detail • Good communication skills and ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment on simultaneous projects • Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in accredited academic year programs, having completed at least one year of academic coursework (freshmen not eligible) • Demonstrated interest in art and art history preferred but students in all majors encouraged to apply • Submission of a design portfolio link required with application • Previous museum experience not required Compensation & Benefits • Paid stipend of $3000 • Generous support provided by Julie and Doug Ostrover for Ostrover Family Academic Year Interns Training & Development • Exposure to the exhibition realization process from conception to installation • Work alongside designers and curators to develop exhibition narratives and environments • Training in developing scaled models, architectural drawings, and critical art layout evaluation • Learn tools used to communicate spatial and conceptual ideas within the institution Career Progression • Gain skills in assessing art checklists, three-dimensional thinking, and fundamentals of exhibition design planning • Insight into operations of a large museum and interdisciplinary collaboration affecting exhibition design How to Apply • Submit a cover letter explaining your interest in the arts and culture space and what you hope to bring to the role • Include a link to your design portfolio This job may close before the stated closing date, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible Report this job Apply tot his job
