EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY**PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Exam School Initiative (ESI) is a racial equity initiative intended to expand access to Exam Schools for students who have been historically underrepresented as compared to the overall BPS student demographics. Over the last two years, a 4th grade cohort has been added. The Office of Opportunity Gaps took over the direction of the program in 2016 and made important changes to the program to best serve the students who have been historically underrepresented in the three exam schools: Boston Latin Academy (BLA), the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science (O’Bryant) and Boston Latin School (BLS). The Office of Opportunity Gaps seeks culturally responsive instructors who believe in the talent and potential of ESI students and will advance the racial equity mission of the program. ESI teachers will provide rigorous instruction during the four-week program while cultivating positive relationships with students and families.REPORTS TO: Exam School Initiative (ESI) Executive Director and Coordinator of Targeted Programming, Office of Opportunity GapsPROGRAM SCHEDULE: PROGRAM DATES & HOURS FOR TEACHERS: Monday July 7, 2025 - Friday August 1, 2025 7:30 AM – 1:30 PMSTUDENT DAILY SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM - 12:50 PMSITE: Boston Latin School, 78 Avenue Louis Pasteur Boston, MARESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee BPS 21st Century Community Learning Centers planning and programming at a specific program site. Support teachers, student volunteers, and other program staff, serve as site lead for instructional support and oversee operational management for programming. Work to:

Support teachers to increase academic achievement and test wiseness.


Support teachers in developing student socio-emotional skills and increase student efficacy by building skills and competencies


Support teachers in creating an environment that promotes student health and wellness and sense of belonging.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

Provide leadership and management at one program site


Participate in the hiring of teachers and support staff


Support efforts to enroll and engage students in the ESI program


Participate in development of program schedule in advance of summer, including but not limited to overseeing the logistics of Chromebook access and distribution to ensure all students can successfully engage with online learning and virtual components of the curriculum.


Supervise instruction, services, and the monitoring of student progress; oversee any performance task or assessment administered to students


Prepare and manage curriculum materials, including pre-program set up and materials inventory after conclusion of programming


Engage and collaborate with families as partners in planning and problem-solving


Establish a culturally competent, trauma-sensitive learning environment


Manage student data systems (e.g. attendance, schedules, etc.)


Track work of BPS teachers and complete time reporting forms for payroll; arrange for coverage in the event of teaching staff absence


Execute and enforce site policies and student discipline code


Coordinate emergency response procedures in the event of emergency


Work with other site staff to monitor the quality of programming to ensure outcome goals are on track to be met. Implement evaluation protocols - surveys, tests, etc.


Collaborate with BPS and OAG, online platforms, and other evaluators to implement evaluation tools


Ensure staff and students follow all district guidelines for in-person programs.


Support with transportation issues, arrival and dismissal of students


All additional duties as indicated in the program-specific job description


Plan and organize Fun Fridays, field trips, and Field Day activities for students


Demonstrate completion of other critical tasks and duties as requested by the OAG office, the host school, and the Office of Expanded Learning Time.
TERMS:

$57.00/hr - Total compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties. Compensation differs based on the ESI program.


Site-specific job requirements, program hours, and training schedules are to be determined by the ESI program. Agreement to site-specific terms is required for hire.


Payroll will be processed on a biweekly basis after receipt of completed timesheets in accordance with the BPS summer payroll schedule.
All employees must read and agree to the BPS 2025 Summer Program Terms of EmploymentQUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree.


Willing to explore student learning in ELA and Math, in a non-traditional classroom setting


Work in close collaboration with the OAG office and the host school with shared goals in a student-centered, school-aligned, results-focused initiative.


Demonstrated ability to serve as site leader, supporting educators, providing constructive feedback, and fostering collaboration.


Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.


Additional qualifications as indicated in the program-specific job description
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

Current teacher or administrator in the Boston Public Schools.


Prior experience working in a BPS summer learning program and/or in close collaboration with a community-based organization


Technology-savvy
