Environmental Scientist I
The Commonwealth of Kentucky is focused on improving the quality of life for its residents by protecting land, air, and water resources. They are seeking an Environmental Scientist I to join the Division of Water, where the candidate will coordinate efforts to manage nonpoint source pollution and provide technical assistance to various stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesMaintain a river basin team consisting of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders engaged in watershed and water quality effortsProvide assistance and technical oversight to businesses, state and federal agencies, local governments, and the general public in the interpretation and implementation of environmental policies and best practices pertaining to nonpoint source pollutionProvide technical assistance and review to watershed groups, contractors, and other organizations in developing and implementing watershed plans to protect and restore Kentucky's surface and groundwaterCommunicate principles of nonpoint source pollution control and 319(h) programmatic elementsDevelop and provide water outreach and education to the public, including preparing and delivering presentationsSkillsGraduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical scienceStrong communication and organizational skillsSelf-motivated with excellent time management skillsGIS skills and experienceFamiliarity with the Clean Water Act, nonpoint source pollution, and other water topicsComfortability public speakingCompany OverviewCommonwealth of Kentucky offers employees on-the-job training and online professional development.
