Job Overview As a Freight Handling and Operations Specialist at blithequark, you will play a critical role in our dock operations, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of freight across the dock area to and from trailers for loading. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with no prior experience, as we provide comprehensive training and support to ensure your success in this role. Your duties will include performing freight handling using various equipment, verifying documentation, securing freight, and assisting customers as needed. Key Responsibilities Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including but not limited to: forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck. Verify documentation matches freight description (e.g., type, weight, hazardous materials), using current electronic or manual systems. Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g., pallets, straps, rope). Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary. Verify and complete required documentation and reports. Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed. Perform hostling duties if required. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as blithequark policies/procedures. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, although this is preferred, it is not necessary for consideration. You must be at least 18 years of age. Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, and/or forklift operations is preferred but not required. The ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator, is necessary, along with basic written and verbal communication skills. Physically, you should be able to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and open trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more. The ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout your shift is also required. Previous dock/warehouse experience is preferred but not necessary, as we are committed to training and developing our team members. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
