Entry-Level Cable Technician (Level 1) – Contract-to-Hire

Location: Barker, NY (On-site)

Project Site: Large-scale data center construction project

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM – 5:45 PM (expected to ramp to 5×10s)

Pay Range: $19–$22/hr (DOE)

Start Date: April 12, 2026

Duration: 4 months, Contract-to-Hire

About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading national electrical and communications contractor (name withheld), is seeking Entry-Level Cable Technicians to support a major data center build. This project offers long-term growth, cross-department training, and advancement opportunities within telecom, security, and communications groups.
Responsibilities
• Pull and route low-voltage cabling
• Assist Level 2 Technicians
• Handle, stage, and run materials
• Safely use hand and power tools
• Climb ladders and work comfortably at heights
• Install wireway, bus duct, cable trays, switches, and receptacles
• Build and outfit telecom closets (backboards, racks, patch panels, fiber hardware)
• Perform grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling
• Complete IDC terminations (110/66 blocks, patch panels)
• Support conduit installation and wire pulls
• Operate two‑hand tools such as cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and more
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Entry-level experience OR completion of a low-voltage/telecom trade school
• Reliable transportation to worksite
• Comfortable working at heights
• Ability to obtain OSHA 10 (preferred if already held)
• Ability to lift 40 lbs
• Valid driver’s license
• Proficiency with basic technician tools, including:
• Screwdrivers (flat & Phillips)
• Drywall saw
• Torpedo level
• Tape measure
• Snips (with sheath)
• Pliers (needle nose & channel locks)
• Hammer
• Cable stripper
• Flashlight
• Gloves

Work Environment
• On-site at a major data center campus
• PPE required: steel‑toe boots, vest, gloves, safety glasses (some provided by client)
• Fast-paced environment with significant long-term buildout remaining
Preferred Certifications
• OSHA 10
• Scissor lift certification
• Telecom/low-voltage trade school background
• Veteran candidates encouraged to apply

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
