Job Duties


VDOT's Staunton District Materials Section is seeking a highly qualified Materials Quality Assurance Supervisor. As the qualified candidate, you will ensure, through materials sampling, testing and observation, that materials proposed for use by contractors and suppliers conform to contract and purchase order requirements.
VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.

Minimum Qualifications


Experience applying materials quality control and quality assurance practices.
Skill in the use of materials testing equipment and tools.
Ability to perform manual labor (securing, handling and preparing material samples).
Ability to supervise a diversified staff to include performance management and discipline, work planning and prioritization.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare technical reports.
Ability to work in the area of low-level ionizing radiation.
Knowledge of material sampling and testing procedures (e.g. AASHTO and ASTM testing specifications and Virginia Test Methods).
Experience in highway construction and maintenance methods and materials to include their properties and performance.
Materials certifications vary by position. Ability to obtain combination of certifications that apply to specific materials position within 12 months of employment.


Additional Considerations


Possession of required materials certifications.
Experience in materials documentation.
A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field desired.
Experience highway civil engineering. Experience in project management for transportation projects. Supervisory experience in a transportation engineering environment.

VDOT utilizes a market-based pay program, which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
