About the position

The City and County of Denver is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Eligibility Specialist within the Denver Human Services department. This position is crucial in providing support to the community, particularly to those who are incarcerated and in need of public assistance. As an Eligibility Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting clients with their applications for benefits and recertifying existing benefits, ensuring that they receive the necessary support in a timely manner. You will work closely with clients, demonstrating compassion and understanding, especially when they are facing difficult circumstances. Your role will require you to navigate various computer systems and adhere to laws, rules, and regulations governing public assistance programs. In this position, you will be expected to provide in-person and same-day services, exhibiting agility in your interactions with clients. You will work independently, maintaining a high level of productivity and quality in processing cases. The role may also require you to provide coverage at other Neighborhood Resource Sites, adapting to the unpredictability of client needs. Responsibilities
• Provide in-person and same-day service to incarcerated individuals applying for or recertifying benefits.

• Exhibit agility in navigating client interactions to meet their needs.
,
• Show tact, compassion, and comfort in working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
,
• Process cases with a high level of independence, productivity, and quality.
,
• Provide coverage at other Neighborhood Resource Sites as needed.
,
• Work with unpredictability from clients in need and remain calm in crisis situations.
,
• Rotate through designated locations, including Denver Jails and DHS locations.
,
• Attend de-escalation and mental health first aid trainings.
,
• Participate in quarterly group supervision and training refreshers.

Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required.
,
• Three years of experience determining eligibility for public assistance programs.
,
• Technical proficiency and willingness to learn new technology or software.
,
• Ability to troubleshoot cases and navigate through CBMS.
,
• Proven record of professionalism and consistency in delivering on the mission of the Family and Adult Assistance Division.
,
• Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with challenging clients.
,
• Sensitivity to cultural diversity and individual differences.
