Job Summary: As an Elementary Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will assist students with activities to maximize participation in learning and achievement of IEP objectives. You will work closely with licensed teachers and therapists to implement instructional plans, apply lesson modifications, and provide physical care as needed. Your responsibilities will include:
Implementing instructional plans and applying lesson modifications to ensure student learning objectives are met
Providing physical care, such as diapering, toileting, and feeding, as well as reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities
Observing, documenting, and reinforcing appropriate student behaviors, and communicating with teachers and facilitators
Participating in weekly team meetings to review student progress, plan upcoming lessons, and participate in trainings
Assisting with non-instructional activities, such as maintaining safety and order in common areas, and escorting students to and from buses or cars
Recording and updating student progress toward achievement of individual educational plans
Requirements:
Valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License
Experience working with special education students preferred
Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to communicate with students and staff
Ability to use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel)
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and maintain confidentiality of student and employee information
Physical Abilities:
Ability to lift students and perform other manipulations to diaper, toilet, feed, dress, and assist students with daily living skills
Ability to see, speak, and hear, and frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, climb stairs or balance, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
Ability to push, pull, lift or carry up to 50 lbs
