Electrical Engineer III - Protection & Controls

Timmons Group is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer III - Protection & Controls to join our Electrical Design Group located in our Charlotte, NC office. Remote candidates will be considered. Responsibilities include preparation of P&C drawings, substation project design, studies, and technical documents in the support of the design of substation engineering projects throughout the country.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Participate in the detailed design of medium to high-voltage utility substationsDevelop detailed design, including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit, and cable sizing/routing, and selection of substation P&C equipmentTranslate written scope documents into comprehensive P&C substation design and drawing package using good engineering judgment and industry/client standards with minimal oversightAnalyze system faults and disturbances to optimize protection strategies using standard industry software (ETAP, Aspen OneLiner, etc.)Integrate substation automation systems with SCADA and communication protocols.Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE)Support project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with clients and stakeholdersMentor junior engineers and designers in protection and control principles and practicesOccasional travel requiredSkills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum of 7 years’ experience in utility substation designEIT Certification / PE registration strongly preferredExperience in 15kV through 138kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standardsExperience in 230kV through 500kV substation design is a plusMicroStation (V8 or newer) or AutoCAD (2016 or newer) is preferredExperience performing P&C design in AutoCAD Electrical using relevant design, analysis and documentation using industry standard softwareAbility to manage multiple P & C design projects (brownfield and greenfield projects)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to adapt and apply standard engineering approaches to complex challengesThe requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
