Remote Full-time
About Us Forward Edge-AI, Inc. is a leader in AI, cybersecurity, and advanced technology solutions for national security, defense, and aerospace markets. We design and deliver cutting-edge electronic systems that meet the world’s most demanding standards. Our engineers work at the forefront of hardware innovation, from secure compute modules to mission-ready networking systems. Position Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with expertise in digital signal processing and embedded systems to design and prototype advanced compute and networking hardware. This role requires deep experience in SoC and microcontroller-based compute modules, high-performance networking devices (10Gbps+), compact PCB design, embedded C development, and secure system integration. The ideal candidate bridges hardware and firmware, capable of taking high-speed designs from concept through prototype to production-ready systems, with a strong emphasis on low SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) design principles. Responsibilities • Architect and integrate SoC and MCU compute modules for high-performance embedded applications • Design and validate high-speed networking systems supporting 10Gbps+ throughput, including SERDES and PHY integration • Perform hands-on soldering, assembly, and rework of prototypes • Conduct board bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting at hardware and firmware levels • Create and optimize compact, multi-layer PCB designs with Altium Designer, ensuring high signal integrity, manufacturability, and thermal efficiency • Work with Ethernet PHYs, PCIe, DDR, QSPI, and other high-speed I/O interfaces • Implement secure hardware elements such as watchdog circuits, anti-tamper features, HSMs, TPMs, and secure boot mechanisms • Develop and debug U-Boot, secure boot chains, and low-level bootloaders • Write embedded C firmware for hardware initialization and diagnostics • Apply engineering best practices to ensure systems meet low SWaP requirements • Utilize lab equipment (oscilloscopes, VNAs, logic analyzers, JTAG, etc.) for validation and debug Qualifications Required • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance • 7+ years of experience in SoC-based hardware and embedded systems design • Strong background in 10Gbps+ networking hardware and PHY integration • Demonstrated expertise in board bring-up, debug, and troubleshooting • Hands-on soldering and rework of fine-pitch components and prototypes • Proven skills in Altium Designer for PCB design • Embedded C coding for hardware bring-up, control, and system monitoring • Familiarity with watchdog, anti-tamper, secure boot, HSM, and TPM systems • Experience with low SWaP system design • Proficiency in simulation and signal integrity tools, and use of standard lab equipment Additional Required Experience • Experience with System-on-Chip (SoC) design and integration • Experience with ARM and x86 processors • Experience with networking protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.) • Experience with PCB layout and routing • Experience with Altium Designer (schematic capture and layout) • Experience with high-speed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Preferred • Knowledge of FPGA development and integration for embedded systems • Familiarity with hardware compliance standards (MIL-STD, DO-254, IPC, etc.) • Background in system-level integration of compute and networking hardware Application Process Interested candidates should submit: • A cover letter describing their technical expertise and prior project achievements • A detailed resume or CV highlighting relevant design and project experience Important: This role is restricted to U.S. citizens due to the nature of the work and applicable government regulations. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and legally authorized to work in the United States without any immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including but not limited to H-1B, TN, or STEM OPT Training Plans. Why Forward Edge-AI This role offers the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking programs at the intersection of electronics, aerospace, defense, and advanced technology. As an Electrical Engineer, you will deliver solutions that meet the world’s most demanding standards while shaping the next generation of mission-ready products.
