Proofreader for Nonfiction Manual (Language Learning) — Proofreading + Light Consistency Check (No Deep Editing)
Project Overview:
My book is a language-learning manual and it is nearly complete. I’m looking for a professional proofreader to polish the manuscript for final publication. I want the text corrected and consistent, but I do not want a deep editor who rewrites my voice or restructures content.
Scope (Proofreading + Light Copy-Editing Only):
Grammar, spelling, punctuation
Sentence-level clarity fixes when obvious (keep original tone)
Consistency check across the manuscript:
headings and capitalization
hyphenation and spacing
terminology consistency (examples, lesson labels, etc.)
Flag unclear lines with comments (only when needed)
Out of Scope (Do NOT do these):
Developmental editing, restructuring, adding new content
Rewriting for style
Changing the author’s tone/voice
Deliverables Required:
Document with Track Changes / Suggestions
Clean final version after changes accepted
1-page “Consistency Notes” sheet (recurring patterns and recommended rules)
Format:
Google Docs or MS Word with Track Changes
Must keep formatting intact (headings, lists, tables, etc.) After book finished, we'll give you the final to please give your opinion on cover and final draft.
Ideal Candidate:
Strong proofreading background with nonfiction, manuals, training guides, or educational content
Detail-oriented, reliable, consistent
Comfortable preserving author voice
