About the position

The Dual Chief Maintenance Technician at the Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Abilene is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the proper operations, maintenance, service, and repair of all hotel equipment. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance and a commitment to upholding the high standards set by MCR Hotels. The technician will be stationed at the Courtyard for three days a week and at the Residence Inn for two days, ensuring that both properties receive the necessary attention and care. Key responsibilities include implementing and administering the Preventative Maintenance program according to MCR standards, evaluating and spot-checking the work of all staff and contractors, and handling guestroom maintenance requests promptly. The technician must maintain comprehensive files of operational manuals and warranty agreements for all equipment, ensuring that they are familiar with the specifics of each item. In the event of alarms, the technician is expected to respond immediately, determining the cause and emergency status, and reporting findings to Guest Services and/or the General Manager. Energy management is also a critical aspect of this role, as the technician will work towards energy conservation and manage energy expenses effectively. Compliance with health codes for the pool and spa, maintaining a key control system, and adhering to MCR standards and regulations are essential duties. The technician will also train and supervise the Engineering staff, coordinate scheduling, and respond to emergency situations using information from Material Safety Data sheets. Regular inspections of fire safety systems, including extinguishers and smoke alarms, will be coordinated to maintain safety standards. The technician is expected to approach all interactions with guests and employees in a friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner, ensuring a positive experience for all. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities
• Ensure that the Preventative Maintenance program is implemented and administered according to MCR standards.

• Evaluate and spot check the work of all staff and contractors or outside laborers.
,
• Handle guestroom maintenance requests in a timely manner.
,
• Maintain files of and be familiar with all operational manuals and warranty agreements for equipment.
,
• Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine the exact location and cause; determine emergency status and report to Guest Services and/or the General Manager with findings.
,
• Manage energy expenses and continually work towards energy conservation.
,
• Ensure that pool and spa follow area health codes.
,
• Maintain a key control system and ensure it is adhered to.
,
• Always comply with MCR standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
,
• Train and supervise the Engineering staff and coordinate all scheduling.
,
• Respond to emergency situations using information contained in Material Safety Data sheets.
,
• Keep Material Safety Data sheets current and easily available (with Housekeeping Manager).
,
• Coordinate all inspections of the fire safety systems, including extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc., to maintain proper safety standards.

• Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Must have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

• Verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

• Basic maintenance skills required.
,
• Proficient in use of hand tools, power tools, test equipment.
,
• Valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (property specific).

• Must be proficient in Windows operating systems, Company approved spreadsheets and word processing.

• Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
,
• Must have a desire to serve all guests.
,
• Must be 18 years of age or older to perform this job.

Nice-to-haves
• Technical, Trade or Vocational school degree.
,
• Licensed in a trade preferred (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, etc.).
,
• 2 years of work-related experience.
,
• Experience in a hotel, apartment, or a related field.
