About the positionThe Public Safety Paramedic (Special Ops) position at the Texas Department of Public Safety involves providing advanced medical care in high-risk environments to support law enforcement and public safety operations. This role requires a high level of expertise in tactical medicine and involves collaboration with various government agencies. The position operates under minimal supervision and requires strong initiative and independent judgment. Responsibilities • Provide direct advanced special operations medical care to State of Texas personnel, citizens, and visitors in nontraditional, remote, austere, and/or high-risk environments.• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in special operations, executive protection, tactical, operational, prehospital, wilderness, austere, disaster, and deployed medicine. • Produce high-quality medical threat assessments, medical intelligence products, medical operations plans, and other related materials. • Provide direct clinical oversight for department credentialed tactical medical personnel, including mentorship and quality assurance activities. • Coordinate and serve as the primary point of contact for department medical operations within assigned region.• Provide liaison work, consultative services, technical assistance, education, training, and implementation in support of department medical initiatives. • Obtain and maintain requisite clinical credentialing as determined by the department. • Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency policies. Requirements • Graduation from an accredited Paramedic education program. • Must be a graduate of a US military or other government special operations medical training pipeline.• Combined minimum of four (4) years experience providing paramedic-level medical care in emergency medical settings. • Must have current/active National Registry Paramedic certification and/or a US State or Territory Paramedic license. • Knowledge of aircraft, vehicles, equipment, supplies, and weapons used in tactical/special operations. • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Trauma Systems, public safety, and emergency management. Nice-to-haves • Experience in executive/dignitary protection.• Six (6) months deployed combat medical experience.
