Come join the Scalence team! Title: Distributed Systems Engineer (migration focused) Start Date: ASAP Duration: 12 months Location: Fully remote (Pacific work hours) Pay Rate: $60/hr. Job Summary We are looking for a Distributed Systems Engineer to lead a critical migration of our large-scale data infrastructure from Hbase/HDFS to a modern, cloud-native platform. This role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, Java backend development, and specific data technologies. Key Responsibilities • Lead and execute the migration strategy from our current Hbase and HDFS environment to a new distributed system. • Design and develop high-performance backend services in Java, focusing on scalability and reliability. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime during the transition. • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks across the distributed architecture. • Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews and architectural decisions. Required Skills & Experience • 5+ years of backend Java engineering experience, with strong knowledge of concurrency, multithreading, and JVM internals. • Hands-on experience with distributed data stores like Cassandra, Hbase, and Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), including architecture, operations, and performance tuning. • Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems. • Experience with the Hubble platform for system monitoring and performance analysis. • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex issues in distributed systems. • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform). • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
