About the Role As a Distinguished Engineer at GEICO, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise to our engineering teams, driving the strategy and execution of our technical roadmap, and collaborating with product managers, customers, and other stakeholders to solve complex problems. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our technology and ensuring the reliability, scalability, and observability of our systems. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership to the enterprise, helping partner teams improve the reliability, scalability, and observability of their systems. Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems and drive technical innovation. Develop and execute technical software development strategy for multiple domains, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of solutions, leveraging expertise in programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, or other object-oriented languages. Mentor and coach engineers to strengthen their technical expertise and know-how, promoting a culture of continuous learning. Influence and educate leadership at all levels, sharing best practices and improving processes within and across teams. Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans, and determine and support resource requirements. Evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes, and demonstrate adaptability, sponsoring continuous learning and improvement. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you must possess: Fluency and specialization in at least two modern languages, such as Java, Python, C#/.Net, or Go, including object-oriented design. Experience building the architecture and design of new and current systems, with a focus on reliability, scaling, and micro-services architecture. Proficiency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and cloud DevOps operational frameworks, preferably with Azure or AWS. Experience with application monitoring tools, observability, and performance assessments, as well as security protocols and products. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle, including task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, and real-time communication. Preferred Qualifications To stand out as a candidate, you should have: 12+ years of professional software development experience within an object-oriented framework. 10+ years of experience with architecture and design, and 6+ years of experience with AWS, Azure, or another cloud service. 6+ years of experience in modern micro front-end design using the latest JavaScript frameworks, such as React or Angular. 6+ years of experience in CI/CD deployments and infrastructure as code, as well as open-source frameworks. A track record of publications in credible conferences and journals, demonstrating expertise and thought leadership. Education and Experience A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational foundation and extensive experience in software development, architecture, and design.
