About the Role

As a Director-Information Security (IAM) at American Express, you will lead the Identity Control and Examination team that reports into the Identity Lifecycle Management organization. This position is critical in ensuring the security and integrity of our systems, and you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic vision around Identity and Access Management for internal partners and workers.

Key Responsibilities:


Lead a team of Data Security Examiners, Directors, and Experts in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources to provide meaningful insights and recommendations.
Ensure the continuing operation and effectiveness of key Identity and Access Management controls, such as Access Reviews and Renunciation Cycles.
Identify potential opportunities to reduce friction by driving the team to design solutions that proactively decrease the need for human intervention in IAM controls.
Collaborate with different teams within Data Security to ensure IAM controls are part of a defense-in-depth strategy that safeguards American Express clients, partners, and investors from Data Security risk.
Lead and mentor a team of experienced Data Security Professionals to ensure their continued growth and engagement.
Provide leadership and strategic vision around Identity and Access Management for internal partners and workers, with a specific focus on ensuring that AXP continues to deliver minimum privilege.


Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Security, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
At least 3 years of experience in a role primarily focused on Data Security.
At least 3 years of direct leadership experience with a history of training and leading others in professional growth.
Deep understanding of Identity and Access Management, including the ability to see all aspects of the Identity and Access Management lifecycle, including risks and vulnerabilities.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead a team to develop those skills.
Ability to recruit and develop talent within Data Security, with a specific focus on using employee leadership to drive engagement of direct reports.
Ability to adapt in a technically complex and rapidly changing environment and to respond calmly and judiciously to changing expectations in a deadline-driven situation.
Ability to manage up via leader presence by simplifying complex details into findings and recommendations that can be actioned.
Understanding of the audit and regulatory environment of financial institutions.
Experience with risk management frameworks, such as NIST and regulatory frameworks like PCI.


Preferred Qualifications:


CISSP, CISM, or other related certifications.
Six Sigma or other related analytics certifications.
