Digital Projects Librarian

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is seeking a Digital Projects Librarian to join our library staff at the DAR Headquarters building in Washington, DC. The Digital Projects Librarian will guide the development of the DAR Library's online genealogical research tools and databases and supervise the digitization of materials. The Library team is beginning work on a new research portal to expand our reach as an important genealogical records resource, and the new librarian will play a key role in developing the website and planning for future growth of the portal. Other duties will include selecting, preparing, and scanning items for digitization both from the library's collection and our archival holdings, working with DAR national committees and volunteers, and providing patron services in the beautiful DAR Library. The successful candidate will have experience with digitization work and familiarity with databases, metadata, taxonomies, and digital information management. The candidate must possess proficiency with basic office software, catalog software, digitization tools, and databases. Essential Functions: • Plans and develops the Library’s online tools and reference outreach. Evaluates existing systems and works with the team to plan long-term strategies for sustainable growth and expansion of online reference tools. • Will oversee library digitization projects by identifying materials, coordinating with staff on processes, managing metadata creation and maintenance, and identifying access restrictions or considerations for digitized materials. • Manages the ingest, processing, cataloging, digitization, and indexing of books, records, and other materials into the DAR’s digital collections. • Will work with library staff and DAR committees to coordinate incoming digital materials. • Involves stakeholders in processes, including attending meetings, participating in workflow development, and the coordination of volunteers. • Provides assistance to the Reference Desk as needed. Reports to: Library Director Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, with some limited telework options available.
